A secure document viewer is a browser-based reading environment where documents are displayed to recipients without the underlying file ever being delivered to their device.

This is fundamentally different from standard file sharing — including platforms that hide the download button. Hiding a button is cosmetic. In those cases, the file has already been sent to the browser; a moderately technical user can still extract it. A genuine secure viewer never sends the file at all.
